CAHPS® Hospital Survey (HCAHPS) Training Information
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will offer Introduction to HCAHPS Training via a self-paced training module Monday, May 4, 2026 through Thursday, May 7, 2026.
HCAHPS Update Training will not be conducted in 2026.
There is no fee for HCAHPS training. Training materials will be posted on the HCAHPS Website in late April 2026.
Training Registration is now open and will close at 5:00 PM EDT (COB) on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Who is Required to Participate in Introduction to HCAHPS Training:
- Currently approved survey vendors and self-administering hospitals that are adding a new mode
- Newly approved survey vendors and self-administering hospitals
- Subcontractor(s)/partner(s) and other organizations responsible for major survey administration functions (e.g., mail/phone/web operations, XML file preparation) for the above organizations
- New Project Managers for currently approved survey vendors and self-administering hospitals or as required by CMS
Please note that Introduction to HCAHPS Training is also recommended as a training/refresher course for new staff members at organizations that are currently approved to administer the HCAHPS Survey.
Instructions and Deadlines for Organizations Required to Participate:
- Participating organizations must review training slides, submit a Confirmation of Training Completion Form, and complete and submit an online quiz.
- A link to the "Introduction to HCAHPS Training" page will be sent to registered organizations the week prior to training. This training page will provide access to the slides, agenda and the Confirmation of Training Completion Form. The link and page will only be available Monday, May 4, 2026 through Thursday, May 7, 2026.
- Introduction to HCAHPS Training slides must be reviewed and the Confirmation of Training Completion Form must be completed and submitted by May 7, 2026, 5:00 PM EDT.
- A post-training quiz will be provided automatically upon submission of the Confirmation of Training Completion Form and will be available for a period of 24 hours only. The post-training quiz must be submitted within this 24-hour period and achieve a passing grade.
- Only one Confirmation of Training Completion Form and one quiz are required for submission per organization.
Please note that Introduction to HCAHPS Training may take approximately 4-6 hours to review in full. Be sure to allow sufficient time to complete this training requirement.

How to Register
To register for the Introduction to HCAHPS Self-training module, select the link at the bottom of this page and complete the Training Registration Form. Please note that you will have the option to register additional participants prior to submitting your training registration.
The contact person at your organization, who is identified on your training registration, will receive an email the week prior to training with the instructions and link for Introduction to HCAHPS Training. Please add the HCAHPS Technical Assistance email (hcahps@hsag.com) to your Contacts list to ensure receipt of important training notifications.
